Biotin interference in immunoassays
Laboratory interference caused by high blood biotin levels, which distorts the results of hormone immunoassays and of cardiac markers such as troponin, potentially leading to misdiagnosis. In 2017 the FDA reported a death caused by a falsely low troponin test that prevented a heart attack from being diagnosed.
